Residents in eastern Nebraska are being urged to stay weather aware as dangerous heat and the threat of severe storms continue across the region. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Lincoln until 9 p.m. Tuesday, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 104 degrees.

Forecasters say the greatest concern later today will be severe thunderstorms developing north and west of Lincoln, where an Enhanced Risk is in place. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats. Lincoln remains under a slight risk for severe weather.

Storms are most likely to reach the Lincoln area between 9 and 11 p.m.  A cold front is expected to move through the state on Wednesday, bringing lower humidity and slightly cooler conditions, although heat index values could still reach the mid-90s.

The severe weather threat continues Wednesday afternoon and overnight. Lincoln is again under a slight risk for severe storms, with the greatest chance for activity from about 10 p.m. Wednesday through 8 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters say large hail and heavy rainfall will be the main hazards.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
