Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews were sent to the Shoemakers Travel Center in west Lincoln around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon. “We had a motorhome with a fire in the engine compartment,” says Acting Battalion Chief Jonathan Reed. “They were having mechanical issues while driving down the interstate and pulled over.”
Reed the owners thought they had the small fire put out with extinguishers. “But it took off on them. They called 911 and by the time we got here the cab and the engine compartment were fully involved.”
Reed says the owners were able to rescue a cat before LFR arrived. No one was hurt.
