Summer travel kicks into high gear this weekend and Nebraska State Troopers are encourage safe driving all season long. “Road trips, getaways, family vacations, and more are on the schedule this summer,” says Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.

“As summer travel kicks off this Memorial Day weekend, our troopers will be on patrol across the state to keep roadways safe from dangerous driving behavior.” Waugh says no matter how far your summer travel takes you, make the commitment now to drive safely.

“Our troopers have numerous partners on the mission to keep Nebraska roadways safe, and every driver is part of that team. Let’s work together to make this summer safe across The Good Life.” The weekend is also part of the annual ‘Make It Click’ enforcement campaign.

During the first week of the effort, troopers arrested 25 drivers for driving under the influence. Troopers also ticketed 594 drivers for speeding, issued 22 citations for open alcohol container, 25 for  driving under suspension and 29 for no seat belt.

Troopers also performed 260 motorist assists in the last week.
