In an effort to take unsafe trucks off Nebraska roadways, NSP Troopers with the Carrier Enforcement Division participated in International Roadcheck from May 12-14. During that time, troopers conducted 388 vehicle inspections and discovered 692 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law.
56 vehicles were taken out of service and not allowed to return to the road. In addition, troopers placed 28 drivers out of service. The patrol says vehicles are placed out of service for a variety of reasons relating to bad brakes or tires, or other problems that pose immediate safety risks. Troopers issued a total of 78 citations during the inspections and also issued a 66 CVSA decals.
The decals indicate that the vehicle did not have any immediate safety issues. The effort focuses on commercial vehicles that may not pass through weigh stations as part of their regular routes. International Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement campaign for commercial motor vehicles in the world.
