The No. 2 and Big Ten regular-season champion Nebraska softball team earned the lion’s share of the postseason awards from the Big Ten Conference, as announced Friday by the conference office. Senior pitcher Jordy Frahm was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, freshman pitcher Alexis Jensen was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and coach Rhonda Revelle was named Big Ten Coach of the Year.
Frahm earned her second straight Big Ten Pitcher of the Year honor. After Thursday’s win over Michigan, she had a 17-4 record with a 1.25 ERA and 193 strikeouts. Frahm has already set the school record for saves in a season with 10. She becomes the fourth player in Big Ten history to earn back-to-back pitcher of the year honors.
Jensen earned top freshman honors after amassing a 21-2 record with a 2.72 ERA, striking out 185 hitters in 128.2 innings. Jensen joins former catcher Ava Bredwell as the only two Huskers to earn freshman of the year honors in Nebraska’s 15 years in the Big Ten.
Revelle was named Big Ten Coach of the Year after guiding Nebraska to a 23-1 Big Ten record, tying 1994 Indiana for the most wins by a Big Ten team in league play in a conventional schedule year (2021 Michigan won more games in an All-Big Ten schedule in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic). Revelle also earned Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2014, the Cornhuskers’ other Big Ten regular season championship campaign. She’s been named conference coach of the year three other times in her career.
Despite Nebraska romp to the conference championship, with a one-run loss to then No. 7 UCLA separating NU from an undefeated Big Ten campaign, Frahm was the only Husker named first-team All-Big Ten. Hannah Coor, Kacie Hoffmann, Alexis Jensen and Ava Kuszak were all named second-team All-Big Ten. In addition, Frahm and Coor earned all-defensive team honors, while Jensen earned all-freshman team awards.
The Huskers will play in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals Friday against Indiana. Pregame coverage begins at 3:45 p.m., with first pitch at 4 p.m. on B-107.3.
