There was a big celebration in Lincoln Wednesday afternoon as the doors of the brand new Clyde Malone Community Center officially opened to the public.  The $23 million facility includes a full-sized gymnasium, a kitchen, computer labs and classrooms.

“Today is more than just a ribbon cutting, this is a declaration that our community really matters, that our children matter, that our families deserve a place where they can grow, heal and thrive,”  says CEO John Goodwin.

“It’s about honoring the legacy of those who built Malone and creating a strong foundation for the generations who will come next. This facility reflects what our community believes about our kids and families, that they deserve the very best.”

During the ceremony, Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird spoke to the importance of having this facility in the community.  “Kids are going to work on their jump shots in the gym, students will build projects in the STEM center and new moms will have access to vital resources.”

Since 1955, the Malone Center has been working to end multi-generational poverty through their programs.  Goodwin says they serve more than one-thousand youth and families  looking for support and opportunity.
