Lincoln is gearing up to celebrate National Bike Month, with city officials encouraging residents to hit the trails and take part in a variety of cycling events. A highlight of the month is the Tour de Lincoln, hosted by the Great Plains Trails Network.

The free weekly ride series explores trails across all four quadrants of the city. Rides begin at 6 p.m. each Thursday in May at the Jayne Snyder Trails Center. Routes range from 12 to 18 miles throughout the month.

Mid-May also marks Bike to Work Week, running May 11th through the 17th, with Bike to Work Day set for May 15th. Residents are encouraged to swap their car for a bike and take advantage of Lincoln’s extensive trail system.

Local organizations are also promoting cycling education. The Bikeshare 101 Series launches June 16th, offering hands-on sessions for seniors interested in using Lincoln’s bikeshare system. The program is hosted by Aging Partners Health and Fitness and BikeLNK.

And later this summer, cyclists can take part in the Trail Trek on June 28th. The ride begins at Lincoln East High School and offers routes ranging from 9 to 48 miles, along with food, water stops, and a commemorative shirt.

Riders can track their miles and find more information about the National Bike Month Challenge in May at lovetoride.net.
