Lincoln Police on Wednesday released results of a distracted driving safety initiative. The project ran from April 1 through 30 and LPD deployed additional officers on overtime specifically to identify and cite drivers who are distracted by electronic devices or engaging in other dangerous behaviors behind the wheel.

Officers also monitored secondary violations that often result from inattention, including speeding, red light/stop sign violations, and failure to yield.  LPD says officers made 245 traffic stops and issued 292 citations, including 70 for speeding.

Officers also ticketed 100 drivers for registration violations, 25 for no insurance and 22 for not wearing seatbelts. The enforcement project was made possible through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
