Gavin Blachowicz and Ty Horn combined on a six-hit shutout to power No. 20 Nebraska baseball to a 3-0, series-clinching win over Illinois Sunday in Champaign, Ill.
Blachowicz (4-1) threw 6.1 shutout innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out four. Horn threw the final 2.2 innings, surrendering no hits or walks while striking out two Fighting Illini (21-21, 9-12 Big Ten) batters. Horn earned his first save of the year.
Rhett Stokes got the Cornhuskers (34-11, 17-4 Big Ten) on the board in the top of the second with an RBI double to right field. Jeter Worthley doubled Nebraska’s lead in the seventh with a solo home run to left. Then in the ninth, Mac Moyer scored on a wild pitch. Sanderson paced the NU offense, hitting 2-for-3 with a double.
The Huskers have won six of eight and will face K-State Tuesday at Hawks Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m. on KLIN.
