Lincoln residents are invited to celebrate Nebraska’s tree-planting roots at Arbor Day LNK on Sunday, April 26, in Antelope Park.

The free, family-friendly event runs from noon to 3 p.m. and will feature live music, a ceremonial tree planting, yoga in the park, tree identification tours and other activities surrounding the benefits of trees and expanding the state’s canopy.

Katie Loos, president of the Arbor Day Foundation, said the 4th annual event is meant to celebrate the Arbor Day holiday, which began in Nebraska in 1872.

“It’s really about celebrating the positive impact trees have on our lives,” Loos said.

One of the event’s biggest draws will be a giveaway of more than 450 trees, available first-come, first-served. Certified arborists will be on hand to offer planting tips and answer questions.

The afternoon includes a mayoral proclamation at 12:30 p.m., followed by a tree planting at 12:45 p.m., yoga at 1:15 p.m. and a tree ID walk with an arborist at 2 p.m.

No registration is required. Organizers say the event is open to all ages.
