Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews were sent an apartment complex near 27th and Nebraska Parkway around 3:20 Thursday afternoon.  LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says someone called 911 to report an apartment unit filling with smoke.

“When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from room.” Once inside, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area.  Lierman says food left on the stove sparked the fire, which caused about $70,000 in damage to the apartment building and $10,000 to contents.

She says damage was contained to the one unit and two adults and a child had to be relocated.  The rest of the tenants were able to get back into their apartments.
