The No. 24 Nebraska baseball team routed No. 12 USC for a second straight day, beating the Trojans 16-6 in a game shortened to eight innings by the mercy rule. The Cornhuskers (31-9, 15-3 Big Ten) also won Saturday’s game by run-rule after winning in extra innings Friday.

Like Friday, USC (30-11, 13-8 Big Ten) bolted out to an early lead, grabbing a 5-2 advantage through two innings. But Nebraska stormed back. Dylan Carey homered in the third to pull the Huskers to within two runs. A Mac Moyer three-run home run in the fourth gave Nebraska a 6-5 lead, and a wild pitch later in the inning scored Jeter Worthley to make it 7-5, Huskers. Augie Lopez homered in the top of the fifth to cut NU’s lead to 7-6, but in the bottom of the fifth, two runs scored on an error and wild pitch to grow the lead to 9-6 Nebraska.

In the bottom of the sixth, Drew Grego clubbed a grand slam to right, sparking a six-run inning to boost the Huskers’ lead to 15-6. Then in the bottom of the eighth, an RBI single by Case Sanderson pushed the lead to 10 and brought on the run-rule.

Carey led the Huskers’ offense, hitting 4-for-5 with two RBI, a double and a home run. Grego and Moyer both had two hits, four RBI and a home run. Ty Horn earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run and six hits and five innings.

Nebraska returns to action Tuesday in Lawrence, Kan., against the Kansas Jayhawks. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., with pregame coverage at 5:30 p.m. on KLIN.
