Nebraska baseball hammered No. 12 USC Saturday at Hawks Field, winning 12-2 in seven innings to clinch a series win. The victory was Will Bolt’s 200th as Cornhuskers’ head coach.

Nebraska bolted out of the gates with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. After an RBI ground out by Case Sanderson, RBI doubles by Jett Buck and Drew Grego pushed the lead to three. An RBI single by Joshua Overbeek pushed the lead to four. Sanderson reignited the Huskers offense in the third with a homer to right. Dylan Carey and Grego followed with homers of their own to push the lead to 7-0. A two-run single by Grego in the fifth built the NU lead to 9-0. A Sanderson RBI double in the sixth pushed the lead to 10.

The Trojans scored a pair in the top of the seventh, but in the bottom of the seventh, Trey Fikes drove in a run with a single and a second run scored on an error to finish off the mercy-rule win.

Nebraska has won its firsts three games of the week and will try to finish off the weekend series sweep of USC Sunday at noon. Pregame coverage begins at 11:30 a.m. on KLIN.
