Former Nebraska cornerback Chris Payton-Jones died in a car accident Saturday night in a two-vehicle accident in Gainesville, Fla. The second driver, a 21-year old, had minor injuries in the incident.

Payton-Jones played for the Cornhuskers from 2014 to 2017, playing a substantial role all four seasons. His best season was his junior season, in which he was named honorable mention All-Big Ten after notching three interceptions and 10 pass breakups. He had an interception return for a touchdown at Indiana that season. Before his senior season, Jones sustained a knee injury and missed the first half of the year before returning to play the final seven games, including starting the final six games. After his Husker career, Jones played in the NFL and UFL.
