A 71-year-old Lincoln man got a call from a toll free number on Thursday from a man saying identifying himself as Michon Morrow. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says he told the man he was in trouble and needed to get a lawyer, but he didn’t fall for it.

“As those in Lincoln know, Michon Morrow is the police chief, and she will never call you to tell you you’re in trouble and need to get a lawyer,” Thomas says.  “This man did the right thing by hanging up and calling law enforcement directly to report the incident.”

There was no personal information shared and the man didn’t lose any money.  Police are reminding the public that if you receive a call from someone claiming to be an officer, you should hang up and verify the call independently.  You can contact the non-emergency dispatch line at 402-441-6000.

Thomas says they would much rather you double-check their identity than risk falling victim to fraud.
