The inaugural Breeze Airways flight to Las Vegas took off from the Lincoln Airport Wednesday afternoon. The new service adds two destinations to Breeze’s existing Orlando route, which began in December.

Flights will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays through Breeze’s Airbus A220 aircraft with about 137 seats. The Las Vegas route will continue on the same plane to Orange County, California allowing passengers to remain onboard without changing aircraft,  also known as a BreezeThru flight.

Miss Lincoln Hannah Johnson was among the dozens who climbed aboard that first flight and is excited to have this service in her hometown. “I didn’t realize how big of a deal it was to have a direct flight from such a small airport to such a big city,” Johnson tells KLIN News.  “This impacts the entire city far bigger than just a flight.”

Johnson says LNK is a partner of Miss Lincoln and she gets to travel for them and do travel content.  “On top of that, Miss America is a national group so I get to go and also visit with  the Miss Nevada women who are competing for that this summer.”

Rachel Barth, the airport’s director of air service development and marketing, said the flights are part of a broader effort to expand affordable travel options. “It’s the first true West Coast California flight I think, we’ve ever had,” Barth told KLIN News. “This will give those the opportunity to go to Vegas or Orange County right out of LNK.”
