2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The CEO of People’s City Mission kicked off his shoes and walked barefoot Wednesday morning to help raise awareness of how having a pair of shoes can have a positive impact on someone’s life.

Every April, Lincoln residents are encouraged to donate new or gently used shoes or make a cash donation to help every struggling family get a pair of shoes.

“Can you imagine going to work every day or going to school everyday in a pair of shoes that are two sizes too small, but you do it because that’s all you’ve got and you get blisters on your feet.”  Last year the Mission and Cornhusker Bank teamed up to collect 60,000 pairs of shoes.

This is the 16th year for the driver, which has collected over 400,000 pairs of shoes and more than $136,000.

Barber wants everyone to check their closets and see if they have any shoes they are no longer using.  They can be dropped off at more than 150 locations across Lincoln through April 19.
