A quick-hitting winter storm will produce a swath of heavy snow across parts of the Northern Plains and Midwest over the next couple of days. The heaviest amounts of snow are expected in Central Iowa.
The Lincoln area could see mixed precipitation Friday with a slight chance of snow before 7am, then a slight chance of snow and sleet between 7am and 9am, then drizzle likely after 9am.
It will be cloudy all day Friday with a high near 41. Southeast wind 11 to 16 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20%.
Friday Night drizzle and snow will become all snow after 7pm with a low around 16. It will be windy, with a north wind 13 to 18 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Saturday there is a 20 percent chance of snow before 9am, otherwise it will be partly sunny, with a high near 24. Blustery, with a north wind 17 to 22 mph decreasing to 8 to 13 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph.
