A 19-year-old man has been convicted after derailing a train in Bennet and posting the crash on social media. Zachary Hertzler was found guilty Monday of felony criminal mischief. Investigators say Hertzler tampered with a railroad switch, causing a BNSF train to derail near a crossing in April of 2024.
Two locomotives and several railcars came off the tracks, but no one was injured.
Court records show Hertzler filmed the derailment and later shared the video. He faces up to two years in prison when he is sentenced on June 22nd.
