The spring like temperatures we have enjoyed this week will could be replaced with a round of potentially heavy snow to end the week.  “Beginning Friday and into early Saturday morning.  Right now it looks like the brunt of the accumulations will be over in central Iowa,” says National Weather Service Meteorologist David Eastlack.

“In eastern Nebraska we are looking at totals ranging anywhere from 3-8 inches.” He says the higher amounts will be closer to the Missouri River with lighter amounts further to west.  Eastlack says the storm system could also bring some mixed freezing precipitation.

Wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour will reduce visibilities.  Eastlack says traveling across region Friday and Saturday could be extremely difficult.  “If you’re heading east from Lincoln it’s not going to be very good travel weather, particularly as you travel further to the east because the heavier snow accumulations are going to be found across central Iowa.

A winter storm watch has been issued for counties in central Iowa beginning Friday.
