A man is in custody after authorities say he swallowed drugs during a traffic stop in Cass County Thursday afternoon. According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy initiated the stop just before 2 p.m. along Highway 75 near Cindy Lake after observing a traffic violation involving a Dodge Ram.
Investigators say the driver, identified as 30-year-old Matthew Couleur of Burnsville, Minnesota, was found to be driving under revocation and in possession of drug paraphernalia. The sheriff’s office says during the stop, deputies reportedly located a vape device that tested positive for a Schedule One narcotic.
Couleur was taken into custody and transported to the Cass County Jail. After arriving, investigators say he began complaining of feeling ill and admitted to swallowing some of the drugs. Rhe sheriff’s office says emergency crews transported him to Bellevue Medical Center for evaluation, where he was later cleared by medical staff.
Couleur was arrested and booked for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, driving under revocation and operating a vehicle without a valid permit. The investigation is continuing.
