Lincoln Transportation and Utilities is advising residents of a street improvement project planned for Cornhusker Highway in northeast Lincoln, expected to begin this spring.

The project will cover about 1.8 miles of Cornhusker Highway, from roughly 37th Street to just east of 56th Street (L55X). Work will include resurfacing, curb and sidewalk repairs, drainage improvements and upgrades to meet accessibility standards. Crews will also replace the traffic signal at the Superior Street/Havelock Avenue intersection.

An eastbound lane of Cornhusker Highway between 35th Street and Havelock Avenue will close on Monday, April 6, to begin this work. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026 at an estimated cost of $6.65 million, funded through a mix of federal and local sources.

Construction will take place under traffic, with temporary lane closures but no full detours planned. Access to nearby homes and businesses will be maintained, though some street and sidewalk closures are expected.

Sidewalk detours will route pedestrians through nearby streets, including North 40th, Colfax Avenue and North 44th, as well as Superior Street and Havelock Avenue.

Additional infrastructure projects are also planned in the area, including work on the 27th Street viaduct and a water main replacement near 27th and Superior streets.
