Governor Jim Pillen announced Thursday that he has rescinded his most recently issued burn ban, which clears the way for burn permits to be issued through local fire departments.

The new executive order cites a reduction in the potential for drought-related fires across the state. Pillen issued a burn ban on March 13 to help reduce the potential for new wildfires in Nebraska. That ban was extended last week until April 10 due to the ongoing wildfire risk.

Pillen says conditions contributing to an elevated wildfire threat have diminished to an acceptable degree.
