As your prepare your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Lincoln Police Department says “luck” should not be your plan for getting home safely. From March 13 through March 21, LPD will conduct a high-visibility enforcement campaign specifically targeting impaired drivers.
“During this time, LPD will deploy additional officers on overtime to patrol Lincoln’s streets and proactively identify drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” says Sergeant Chris Vollmer. In 2025, Nebraska saw a concerted effort to reduce alcohol-related fatalities. “LPD’s recent campaigns have shown that increased visibility works, however, alcohol remains a factor in a significant percentage of serious injury crashes in Lancaster County,” Vollmer says.
During this campaign, officers will also be looking for secondary violations such as speeding and seatbelt non-compliance. This initiative is made possible through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
