A Lincoln man accused of shooting at a police officer during an attempted burglary at an Office Depot was arraigned Friday in Lancaster County Court.

KLIN media partner 10/11 NOW reports that 49-year-old Robert Bures faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, attempted burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of burglary tools and using a deadly weapon to resist arrest. A judge set his bond at 10% of $1 million.

Lincoln Police say Officer Kirby Urbanek was dispatched to the Office Depot near 48th and R streets on an alarm just after 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 25. While there, investigators say Urbanek found Bures inside a small access door behind a dumpster near the loading dock.

According to court documents, Bures ignored verbal commands, threw a metal object and fired a single shot at the officer. Urbanek returned fire, striking Bures in the “lower extremities.”

Police say Bures attempted to flee but was taken into custody. He was transported to a hospital and underwent surgery for multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers recovered a 9mm handgun, burglary tools and clothing believed to belong to Bures at the scene, and investigators are still determining who owns the firearm.

Bures was booked into jail Wednesday. He also faces several outstanding warrants tied to burglary and vehicle theft investigations.

Urbanek was not injured and has been placed on paid administrative leave. Bures’ next court appearance is scheduled for April 8 at 10 a.m.
