A Lincoln man is accused of leaving a trail of destruction after three churches were vandalized late last month.  LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says it began February 28 just after 6:45 p.m. when officers responded to a burglary in progress at First Christian Church near 16th and K Street.

“Two exterior stained glass mural windows were smashed, and the front door was broken, for total estimated damages of $20,000,” Thomas says.  Less than 10 minutes later, another officer responded to the F Street Church at 13th and F Street .  Two front glass doors were found shattered and large landscaping bricks were seen among the broken glass, causing approximately $1,000 in damage,” Thomas says.

Officers found the suspect, 27-year-old Nigel Cummings of Lincoln, who was seen on video and arrested him. Officers also located a vehicle that had been vandalized, with damage to the front passenger window and a concrete retaining wall brick inside, causing $500 in damage.

Thomas says on March 2, around 1 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church near 13th and H Street reported a belated vandalism of two broken stained glass windows that happened sometime between
February 22 and March 1. The damage was estimated at $4,000.  “The investigation determined Cummings was the party responsible for this incident as well.”

Cummings was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked on a number of charges.
