A 44-year-old Lincoln man is facing a long list of charges after police say he did everything he could to avoid arrest.
LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says around 4:20 Wednesday afternoon investigators with the Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force saw David Montoya driving with no license plates near S. 30th and O streets.
She says officers knew his license had been revoked since 2022 and is regularly armed. “Investigators began tracking the vehicle and attempted to contact him once he stopped in an alley near S. 30th between ‘N’ and ‘M’ Streets,” Thomas says. A passenger in the vehicle exited and was detained without incident.
“Montoya drove in reverse toward investigators and then tried to drive away, getting the vehicle stuck on a wooden fence.” Thomas says investigators gave him multiple commands to get out of the vehicle.
“Investigators used a pepper ball launcher, but Montoya continued trying to drive away before getting out and running off.” Thomas says Montoya tried to enter a nearby locked home. “At the back door, he resisted arrest, reaching for a fixed-blade knife in a sheath on his hip”
He was ultimately placed into custody. Thomas says a revolver was found in the vehicle, along with a glass pipe with suspected meth residue. The estimated damage to the fence is at least $1,000.
Montoya was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of meth, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, criminal mischief and driving while revoked.
