Lincoln Fire and Rescue investigators say Monday morning’s fire that destroyed a Union Pacific bridge in west Lincoln was caused by an unattended campfire. The nearly 100-year-old bridge was located over Salt Creek, just west of the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The fire broke out around 3:45 A.M. and collapsed about two hours later. The bridge was used by UP and BNSF and consisted of heavy timber.
She says the rail line was used periodically. There have been no reports of arrests or citations. Lierman says there was a known homeless camps under that bridge.
