The Nebraska baseball team salvaged the final game in Arlington, Texas, this weekend in a big way, as the Cornhuskers throttled No. 16 Florida State, 10-1, Sunday.
Dylan Carey led the Nebraska (4-3) offensive attack, hitting 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI. Jett Buck was 2-for-3 with an RBI as well, while Will Jesske was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Gavin Blachowicz (1-0) earned the win for the Huskers, allowing just one earned run in five innings pitched. The bullpen combination of Colin Nowaczyk and Cooper Katskee took it from there, throwing four shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk combined while striking out eight. Payton Manca (0-1) took the loss for the Seminoles, allowing three earned runs and two hits in just 0.1 of an inning pitched.
A Joshua Overbeek sacrifice fly in the top of the first got Nebraska on the board. Buck followed with a two-run double to left-center, boosting the lead to 3-0. Then in the top of the third, Carey’s single through the left side drove in a run and pushed the NU lead to four. Cole Kitchens followed with an RBI groundout to make it 5-0, Huskers.
After Myles Bailey homered in the bottom of the fourth for Florida State, Nebraska answered in the top of the sixth. Jesske drove in a run with a double, while Miken Miller hit an RBI single to up the lead to 7-1. Buck tacked on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-1. Then in the top of the seventh, with Overbeek at first, Carey drove a ball off the wall in right-center that scored Overbeek and allowed Carey to circle the bases on an inside-the park home run, growing the lead to nine and punctuating the day for Nebraska.
