Lincoln residents are invited to a open house this Thursday, Feb. 12, regarding improvements to 27th Street.

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities specified the project between Nebraska Parkway and South Street does not include widening 27th Street, which is beyond the scope of this maintenance-related project. The open house will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Irving Middle School (2745 South 22nd Street).

The project, funded in part through the voter-approved quarter-cent sales tax Lincoln on the Move, will focus on maintaining and improving the existing street and infrastructure. Planned work includes concrete repair or replacement, joint and crack sealing, curb and median repair or replacement, mill and overlay, public utility adjustments, updated pavement markings, and storm drain inlet top replacements. All work would occur within the existing street footprint.

Additional work with other funding sources would include signal replacements at Woods Boulevard, Sheridan Boulevard, and Van Dorn Street; addition of a pedestrian crossing with a rectangular rapid flashing beacon at Stockwell Street and O’Reilly Drive; upgrades to existing curb ramps to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements; and water main and lead service line replacements.

This improvement project is estimated to cost $5.45 million. Construction funding would come from a combination of Lincoln on the Move, Highway Allocation Fund, and Lincoln Water System funds. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2026.

Residents are invited to attend and present comments and questions. Design information will be displayed, and personnel from LTU and the design team will be present to answer questions and receive comments.
