The Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department reports 351 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday bringing the total number to 50,947.

There were three deaths on Tuesday, a man in his 50’s who was hospitalized and unvaccinated, a woman in her 70’s who was hospitalized and unvaccinated and a woman in her 70’s who was hospitalized and vaccinated. The total number of COVID-19 deaths is now at 358.

There are 113 people hospitalized with 72 from Lancaster County. There are 17 patients currently on ventilators. This includes patients who no longer test positive but continue to be hospitalized.

The Omicron variant began spreading in Lancaster County in late December of 3021. Omicron increases more rapidly than earlier forms of the virus. Those who are vaccinated will need a booster dose to protect themselves and others from Omicron. Those who are unvaccinated are at greater risk of contracting the Omicron variant. Those who have previously had COVID-19 do not have natural immunity that prevents them from being infected with Omicron.

The Delta variant continues to spread at high levels and impacts the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
