A two-alarm apartment fire early Friday morning forced five residents out into the bitter cold. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman tells KLIN News the fire broke out around 2:00.  “The fire started on the second floor.  It was an accidental kitchen fire,” Lierman says.

One occupant on the first floor was evacuated by LFR, but did not to the hospital.  Lierman says one firefighter was injured slipping on the ice that was created by the sub zero temperatures and wind chills.  The extent of injuries is not known.

Lierman says the fire was under control in about 30 minutes and damage is estimated at $165,000.  A total of five residents were relocated by the Red Cross.
