Fire Forces Lincoln Family From Home

By Tom Stanton Jan 11, 2026 | 1:53 PM

Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews encountered smoke and flames coming from a home near 71st and Holdrege when they arrived around 11:30 Sunday morning.  LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the fire started on the stove and burned through the kitchen cabinets, into the walls and up into the attic.

Lierman says the residents left the house after cooking in the kitchen earlier.  Neighbors saw the smoke coming from the home and called 911.  She says damage to the home is estimated at $80,000 and there’s about $25,000 in damage to the contents.

The Red Cross was called to help relocate one adult and three children.
