The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating after a pedestrian hit by a vehicle on Christmas Eve died from her injuries.

The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, near Pioneers Boulevard and Nebraska Parkway. Investigators believe that 23-year-old Haileigh Kapke of Lincoln was driving west on Pioneers when she struck 56-year-old Jody Lund of Lincoln, who was crossing the road in the crosswalk.

Lund was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a brain bleed. She died from her injuries on Friday, Jan. 2.

LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas said the crash is now being investigated as a Motor Vehicle Homicide. The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office has agreed to postpone charging the citation written last week to Kapke for Failure to Yield to allow for further investigative efforts.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call LPD’s non-emergency number at 402-441-6000. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600, report online at lincolncrimestoppers.com.
