Dozens of Tires Dumped In Ditches Across Lancaster County

By Tom Stanton Dec 8, 2025 | 10:59 AM

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says since December 3 they have responded to several calls of tire littering across the county. “We have a total of 99 tires that have been thrown into the ditches with one case having 55,” says Chief Deputy Ben Houchin.

He says they need help from the public to find whoever is doing this.  “We have had several up on the north and northwest portion of the county, but now they are all over the place.”‘  Houchin says it cost taxpayers money because we have to call the health department to come out and pick them up.

“If somebody see’s something, please give us a call.”  Houchin says there are numerous places in Lincoln that the people can go for a small fee to get rid of these tires.  Violators will face a class three misdemeanor for the first offense, which includes a up to $100 fine, and the cost goes up for each additional offense.

“You’ll also be responsible for the cleanup if you get caught,” Houchin says.  “We need this to stop and if anybody has any information on who is doing this, we’d greatly appreciate a call at the sheriffs office or you could call Crime Stoppers 402-475-3600.

Houchin says the 55 tires were found at SW 72nd and W. Pleasant Hill Road.  Tires were also found at S. 120th and Van Dorn, on 179th and and S. 148th St, 160th and S. 148th St, S. 176th and Stagecoach Road and N. 162nd and Holdrege St.

Other tires were found at 148th and S, 112th and Van Dorn, 176th and Stage Coach and 162nd and Holdridge.  “They are all over the place, so we need not just one area to be on the lookout, we need everybody throughout the whole county because it seems to be going on everywhere.”
