Starting December 4 Lincoln Police will working to reduce crashes during the winter months.  The Winter Traffic Safety Project will run through March 31, 2026.  LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says winter is traditionally one of the highest-risk periods for collisions.

“Throughout the project, additional officers will work overtime to focus on the common factors that contribute to winter-related crashes including speeding, driving too fast for conditions, following too closely and failure to yield the right of way at intersections.”

Thomas says the operation is being funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. “Whose continued support allows the Lincoln Police Department to dedicate additional resources to targeted traffic enforcement.”

Thomas encourages all drivers to slow down, increase following distance, use headlights, and avoid distractions as we start experiencing adverse winter weather.
