For many years, Lincoln Public Schools eighth grade students had to prepare for a big decision in January, which high school they were going to attend next year. LPS Director of Secondary Education says they have decided to move it to December.
“The reason we made that shift is to allow our counselors to be able to work with our students to get registered a little bit sooner and then that allows us to be able to match our resources with enrollment across the district.”
Eighth grade students and their families will now have to submit their choice form by January 5, 2026, instead of January 31. The high school information nights have also moved to December to aid students and their families to learn more about each high school.
In addition to enrollment in one of LPS’s eight high schools, some students choose to participate in one of the specialty programs. Some of the focus programs are available for 9th graders and others are offered for upperclassmen only. Click here for more information on the focus program.
