Following the Thanksgiving weekend storm that dumped nearly four inches of snow on Lincoln, the city is calling on snow removal enthusiasts to lend a hand to their neighbors who need assistance clearing snow from sidewalks.
Since 2012, the Snow Angels Program has helped community members, particularly older adults and individuals with disabilities who struggle to clear snow, stay safe and mobile during winter storms and the snow fall season.
“As some of our dedicated volunteers retire from snow removal, it is crucial that we recruit new volunteers to keep the program running,” says LTU Maintenance Operations and Fleet Services Manager Tim Byrne. “It’s a simple, yet meaningful way to give back to your neighbors.”
Volunteers can sign up at lincoln.ne.gov/SnowAngels. Participants can choose their own schedule and are not required to have a snow blower. Those interested in receiving snow removal assistance should view the map of volunteers at lincoln.ne.gov/SnowAngels.
