Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews were in the right place at the right time when a fire broke out on the deck of a second floor apartment near 56th and Shady Creek Lane around 10:15 Friday morning.

“Engine 6 was actually three blocks away getting done with a medical call so they had a very quick response and were able to make a very quick attack and knock it down,” says Public Information Officer MJ Lierman.

Lierman says no one was home when the fire broke out and a downstairs neighbor called it in.  She says the fire caused about $10,000 in damage and was caused by the improper disposal of a cigarette.
