Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird joined City and neighborhood representatives this morning to celebrate the completion of the Normal Boulevard improvement project.

“We are as thrilled as you are to be nearing the end of our street construction season,” Mayor Gaylor Baird said. “Completed projects like this make it easier, safer, and more enjoyable for community members to drive to work, get children to school, and support local businesses.”

The Normal Boulevard project—spanning 33rd to 70th streets—is one of six major improvements finished this year under Lincoln on the Move, the voter-approved quarter-cent sales tax that has generated $104 million for street rehabilitation since 2019. The City expects to complete 14 major projects by the end of 2025, including eight funded through the regular street budget and six through Lincoln on the Move.

Approved by voters again this spring, Lincoln on the Move is projected to generate $18 million annually, totaling $144 million over eight years for transportation infrastructure.

“Construction to improve and grow our infrastructure may be a temporary inconvenience, but it’s a clear sign of long-term progress,” said Liz Elliott, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) Director. “After months of hard work, Lincoln is on track for safer, smoother streets that will serve us far into the future.”

By the end of the year, LTU will have completed over 58 lane miles of improvements, including projects on 14th Street, Northwest 12th Street, and Nebraska Parkway.
