During the month of February ten people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways. The Nebraska Department of Transportation says icy roads and snow were contributing factors in four of those crashes resulting in five deaths.    The department says two of those fatalities involved drivers who passed snow plows. Four of the ten people killed were wearing seat belts.  Four others who died weren’t buckled up and the Nebraska Department of Transportation says it’s unknown if the other two were wearing seatbelts.

The department says eight of the fatalities were in rural locations.  The ten fatalities in February compares to 18 last year during the same month.  So far this year 33 people have died in crashes statewide and data collected shows only nine of the people killed were using seatbelts.
