A burglary suspect is in custody after fleeing from Lincoln Police early Wednesday morning. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says 49-year-old Robert Bures was driving a stolen car that was reported missing from Murphy Motors in north Lincoln Monday morning.
“An employee told officers the building’s electric meter had been removed, cutting power and someone had gotten inside the building by breaking a door handle,” Thomas says. “A white Nissan Sentra was missing and a garage bay door was damaged by a vehicle driving through it.”
Thomas says an officer patrolling around Adams and Touzalin Streets saw a white Nissan Sentra matching the description of the stolen vehicle. “The officer followed it and observed dealer plates from another dealership that had been burglarized on Tuesday morning.”
Thomas says officers deployed stop sticks near 33rd and St. Paul Avenue, disabling the vehicle’s front two tires. The car then accelerated northbound. “It ultimately drove into a tree line near 33rd and Gladstone where the driver ran off on foot.” Officers eventually found Bures hiding in another vehicle and arrested him.
He was booked for burglary, criminal mischief, theft by receiving stolen property $5,000 or more, willful reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, possession of burglar’s tools, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and driving while revoked from DUI.
