Speaker of the Nebraska Legislature Mike Hilgers announced on Wednesday his candidacy to be Nebraska’s next Attorney General. Current Attorney General Doug Peterson announced Tuesday he would not seek a third term next year.
In announcing his campaign, Speaker Hilgers said: “The Attorney General plays a critical role in protecting Nebraskans, and as Attorney General I will fight against federal overreach, stand with law enforcement, defend our constitution, and protect our communities and families.
Hilgers has been a private practice attorney for over 15 years. Mike and his wife Heather have three children and live in Lincoln.
