The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department is teaming up with Lincoln Community Learning Centers to host the Youth Sports Sign-Up event on Saturday, October 18. The free event will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Woods Park near 33rd and “O” streets.

The event is designed to connect families with affordable local youth sports programs and attendees can meet with staff from a variety of sports, learn about upcoming seasons, and explore programs that offer low-cost registration, scholarships, or financial assistance for youth ages 3 through 16.

“Every child deserves a chance to play, grow, and thrive, regardless of family income,” says Angelina Stovall-Amos, LLCHD Public Health Education Supervisor. “With more than 170 youth already connected to affordable sports through our past sign-up events, we know the need is real and we’re just getting started. By bringing these opportunities directly to families, we’re removing barriers and helping build healthier, more connected communities, one game at a time.”

There is no cost to attend the sports sign-up or to speak with participating sports programs.  The event is held in collaboration with the Lincoln Track Club’s third annual Woods Park Twilight Runs a community-centered race series for all ages and abilities.  Proceeds from the run will benefit the Food Bank of Lincoln.

During the event there will be local food trucks and fun activities for families.  Participants are asked to bring gently used or new youth sports gear, like cleats, balls, shin guards and jerseys to donate or swap with other families  You can also support the Food Bank of Lincoln by bringing non-perishable food items or making a monetary donation at the event.
