Lincoln Police have been unraveling a series of events that led to the arrest of a man for kidnapping and assaulting a Lincoln woman.  LPD says the 37-year-old victim remains hospitalized with significant injuries.

“She was severely beaten and presumed deceased when LPD first learned of the attack. She is intubated and officers have not been able to interview her,” says Captain Ben Miller.  Police say this all stems from recent events that unfolded over the last several days, culminating in a search for the victim and two of her relatives on Wednesday.

Miller says on Wednesday around 8:15 a.m. officers were sent to a check the welfare of the victim based on a text message with a picture provided to officers that showed her injuries and claimed she had been killed.

“Throughout the morning, the investigation led officers to the area of North 1st and Adams Streets and saw 36-year-old Dominic Williams leaving in a vehicle. “They pulled him over around 11:50 a.m. and found the victim unconscious in the back seat with injuries reflective of those observed in the photo,” Miller says.

She was taken to the hospital by Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Williams was taken into custody and interviewed by investigators.  “Throughout the afternoon, LPD activated the SWAT Team to make entry into two separate properties, working to locate two relatives of the victim, including a young child,” Miller says.  Officers were able to find them uninjured and determined to be safe around 2:30 PM.

LPD requested North Star High School be placed into Secure for a short time due to safety concerns for students related to those connected to Wednesday’s events. “At this time, we do not believe any part of the incident happened at or near the school itself,” says Police Chief Michon Morrow.

Police says the investigation into this incident and the events leading up to it is ongoing, including working to determine a motive, when and where the assault took place, and all those involved. “We believe this is part of an ongoing dispute between two groups and not an incident of domestic violence,” Miller says.

Williams was arrested for first degree assault and kidnapping.  Miller says there is still a lot of work to complete in this complex investigation.  “We urge anyone with information that could assist us to call LPD at 402-441-6000.”  To remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600, report online at lincolncrimestoppers.com or download the free P3 app.
