LPD Brings Back Pink Patch Project for Breast Cancer Awareness

By Tom Stanton Sep 15, 2025 | 1:30 PM

For the second year the Lincoln Police Department and First Responders Foundation Lincoln are raising awareness and funds for cancer patients by selling pink patches as part of the Pink Patch Project.

LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says every dollar raised from the sale will go to the Heartland Cancer Foundation, a local non-profit right here in Lincoln that provides financial assistance to cancer patients undergoing treatment in our community.

“According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the US, except for skin cancers, accounting for 30% of all new female cancers each year,” Thomas says.  It’s also the second leading cause of cancer death in women. There is a 1 in 8 chance an American woman will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.”

Thomas says new this year, officers can wear the pink patches on their uniforms during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  “Nearly all of us have been touched by cancer, either personally or through loved ones,” Thomas says.  By encouraging early detection and open conversations, we can increase survival and bring hope to more families.”

LPD pink patches are $10 and can be purchased with cash, check or Venmo. They’ll be for sale at the Hall of Justice and at all three LPD team substations from
September 15 through the end of October or while supplies last.

Last year LPD donated $2,500 to the cause.
