Governor Jim Pillen has approved the adoption of newly drafted emergency regulations submitted by the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission.
The new regulations were signed on Sept. 9. On Monday, the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission held an emergency meeting to set limits on the number of plants cultivators may grow. The Commission’s recommendation was that no more than 1,250 flowering plants be possessed by each cultivator.
The Governor had asked the Commission to consider such a limitation to ensure that an excess of cannabis production would not lead to an unregulated and unintended black-market supply.
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana campaign manager Crista Eggers—the force behind the widely voter approved ballot measures which passed in 2024 by ~70%—expressed her disappointment in Pillen to KLIN News.
“The Governor, alongside his allies on the Commission, executed the collapse of Nebraska’s medical cannabis program. Constructing barriers at every step, ensuring patients are denied relief, families are left suffering, and the will of the people is shredded. This betrayal will not be forgotten.”
The commission is set to meet again on September 30 at 1 p.m., the day before licensing is scheduled to begin.
