The Nebraska State Patrol arrested a 29-year-old Omaha man after a high-speed motorcycle pursuit overnight in eastern Nebraska.

Around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a trooper spotted a motorcycle without license plates speeding eastbound on I-80 near the 56th Street interchange in Lincoln. The rider, later identified as Travis Knipp, initially slowed to about 75 mph but refused to pull over, then accelerated to more than 150 mph and passed vehicles on the shoulder.

Troopers activated the NSP AirWing helicopter, which tracked the motorcycle as it exited I-80, traveled onto Highway 66, and later circled back toward Lincoln. Ground troopers called off the pursuit while the helicopter monitored from above.

After about 30 minutes, the motorcycle ran out of gas on Highway 77 between Wahoo and Ceresco. Troopers, directed by the helicopter, arrested Knipp without further incident.

Knipp was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on charges including flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and numerous traffic violations. The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.
