A 66 year old man called Lincoln Police around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to report a fraud.
The man told police he was an investor and having trouble accessing an online stock trading website. After trying to contact customer service several time, he did an online search and found a different phone number. He spoke with a man who told him to download “Any Desk” so they could view his account and help him.
A short time later he was notified by the trading site that his password had been changed and all of his stocks had been sold. The victim lost approximately $13,000.
The investigation is ongoing. Lincoln Police send a reminder to only use contact information originally provided by the company. Do not trust information on an internet website search without verifying it. Scammers are convincing and often times use tactics that appear legitimate. If you feel unsure, police say hang up.
