Lincoln Police say a 20-year-old man who who fled from LPD officers Wednesday before crashing his motorcycle into a car was taken from the hospital to the Lancaster County Jail on Friday. LPD Captain Todd Kocian says Dakota Thomas was booked for operating a vehicle to avoid arrest and cited for reckless driving, no motorcycle license and no license plate.
Investigators says around 8:00 Wednesday night an officer attempted a traffic stop of a blue Suzuki motorcycle near 52nd and O Street, but the motorcycle took off eastbound on O Street. Police say the officer did not pursue due to safety concerns.
Moments later officers along with members of Lincoln Fire and Rescue were sent to the area of 70th and A Street for a motorcycle that had hit a car. “The investigation showed a white 2016 Mazda 6, driven by a 46-year-old Lincoln woman was southbound on 70th near A Street,” says LPD Lt. Jason Goodwin. “The driver of the Mazda began to merge into the inside lane when a blue Suzuki motorcycle ran into the car.”
It was determined the motorcycle was excessively speeding prior to the crash.
